How did her fashion era begin?

The iconic 00’s singer and actor often stated as the “Princess of Pop” Britney Spears was born on December 2nd, 1981. She first auditioned for The Mickey Mouse Club at age 8 but was turned away for her young age. She worked as an understudy for off-broadway and was featured in an episode of star search. 4 years later at age 16 Britney released her debut single “Hit me Baby One More Time” in 1998. She wore a catholic school girl outfit tied into a cropped shirt, this instantly gave her the signature risque image she’s known for today.

One year later her first album “Baby One more time” includes 12 songs 5 of which have music videos. Throughout these videos Britney is seen wearing crop tops, billowy pants, flowy long sleeved shirts, bell bottoms, metallic boots, leather tops and skirts, metallic sets, neon green, and Bucket hats. She was influenced by times but she also influenced the trends herself.

In 2001-02 Spears was styled by Kurt Swanson and Bart Mueller, notable figures in the Y2K fashion movement, particularly known for their role as fashion designers and as the founders of Swanson & Mueller, a fashion label that gained prominence in the early 2000s. Their most iconic looks being the 2001 AMA’s (American Music Awards) Britney wore a custom two tier denim dress with a chunky bracelet, necklace, and belt. A denim jeweled handbag to tie the whole look together. Swanson and Mueller also created multiple looks for her “I’m a Slave 4 U” Music video the overall looks include Low-rise cuts: Emphasizing the midriff and creating a sexy silhouette. Bold colors and metallics: Adding vibrancy and a futuristic touch. Mix of casual and glam: Balancing streetwear with high-fashion elements. Swanson and Mueller’s contributions are frequently cited in discussions about the revival of early 2000s aesthetics in today’s fashion.

Although it’s been 26 years, her love of diamanté, denim, crop tops and trucker caps are currently being seized upon by the younger generation all over again.
